Project governance is defined as the framework which ensures that the project has been correctly conceived, and is being executed in accordance with the best project management practice and within which important decisions are made.
Some organizations use their existing management structures for oversight and project governance. While the internal governance body understands business priorities better than anyone else and is more than capable of making appropriate decisions, it is important that an external assistance is acquired– especially in technology projects. This can be as simple as having an experienced technology trusted advisor in the governing body or as extensive as getting a consulting organization to set up project governance frameworks for improved decision making, project execution and accountability.
